WWE 24/7 - ECW 1995 Thoughts - March 10, 2008

I am still catching up on my ECW viewing courtesy of WWE 24/7. Yeah, I'm talking about the original ECW. You know, the good ECW? The great ECW. Yeah, that ECW. I'm currently into the October 1995 stuff and am LOVING it. Steve Austin just made his debut on the shows and I've seen most of his promo stuff from that era of ECW but there was one that I watched that I had not seen. It was just him talking to the camera in the back for probably 5-7 minutes or so about being fired from WCW and what he was going to do in ECW. This was an awesome promo!! If you didn't know, Austin was fired from WCW and was given an opportunity by Paul Heyman to come to ECW. Heyman basically said that he knew what happened with Austin and said if you want to talk and vent about it, come on our show and we'll air what you've got to say. Austin did and it helped launch what would become the Stone Cold character. Joey Styles and Tazz host the ECW shows on WWE 24/7 where they'll tell some stories before and after the complete airing of that week's show. Tazz tells a story of when Austin went to the ring the first night in ECW talking trash on Sandman, Whipwreck, and ECW in general. Tazz said that he and Tommy Dreamer looked at each other while this was going on complimenting how incredible that Austin was on the mic. That segment in the ring that Tazz was telling the story about was incredible as well and I had never seen that segment either. Another highlight of the ECW shows that I watched this weekend was the continuation of the anti-hardcore angle that Mick Foley was doing at the time. Foley got to the point where he would do a lot of rest holds to make the ECW crowd mad saying that he wasn't going to do what the fans wanted him to do. The fans started booing at first. They eventually started doing the wave. The wave in the ECW Arena was a sight to be seen!! I laughed for several minutes after that happened.
