Raw Is Osbournes, Smackdown Recap, & More - November 3, 2009

Welcome to the “can DX please replace Cole and Lawler on commentary?” edition of The Wrestling List. TNA continues to be the talk of the wrestling world in the last week based on the Hogan/Bischoff announcement. Let’s get into the List.

Is TNA about to make another announcement? That seems to be the buzz and rumor going around. There is a lot of talk that TNA is set to make another big announcement in the near future. I have to say that Hogan signing with TNA has gotten a lot of buzz and publicity for the company. Most of the wrestling talk all of last week was about Hogan and TNA. The Impact rating did see a jump due to the Hogan promotion for his press conference airing as Impact did a 1.3 on Thursday night.

Tonight’s Raw was hosted by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. I thought tonight was a fun show and they were fun hosts. The crowd was into it so thumbs up from me on their performance. The show opened with them in the ring. Big Show, Miz, Rhodes, and Dibiase all complained about wanting their losses taken out of the record book last week. Well, not Big Show. Big Show just wanted an apology from the Raw roster. DX arrived and promoted both of the books by DX and of Ozzy. This all resulted in DX basically making the matches for the night with them whispering to the Osbournes. The main event would have Jericho vs. Big Show vs. Cena. DX was on commentary at ringside. Jericho and Show did get into it at one point. The finish had Cena picking up Jericho in the adjustment. Show landed a knockout punch to Cena from the apron. Jericho landed on Cena and got the pin. They went to doubleteam Cena and then DX jumped in to help. Shawn got KO’d by a Show punch as he stepped through the ropes. Triple H fought both Jericho and Show but then Jericho hit a codebreaker which sealed the fate for DX. In other action, Kofi Kingston was set to take on Randy Orton. The match went for a couple of minutes until Rhodes and Dibiase got involved. Kofi dove on to all three of them on the floor but was then surrounded. Ozzy and Sharon appeared on the screen. Ozzy announced that a six man tag team match cause he figured this was how it was going to play out. Joining the match was MVP and Mark Henry and it would be them and Kofi against Legacy. The finish had Kofi stopping a RKO attempt. Cody then jumped off the top and was caught by Henry. Henry landed the world’s strongest slam for the pinfall on Rhodes. A divas battle royal was held with the winner being the number one contender to Melina’s Divas title. In the battle royal were Kelly Kelly, The Bellas, Gail Kim, Alicia Fox, and Eve. Eve was doing well but was then distracted by Swagger who had made his way to ringside. Eve was eliminated and this left a final two of Kelly and Alicia. Alicia dumped Kelly out and won the battle royal to become the number one contender. Sheamus faced Jamie Noble and won a squash match. After the match, Sheamus destroyed Noble by powerbombing him on the floor. Noble was stretchered out. Miz defeated Evan Bourne after avoiding the airbourne. He threw Bourne into the corner and hit the skull crushing finale for the pinfall. There was a bizarrely entertaining segment called Raw’s Got Talent. This was a play off of America’s Got Talent with Ozzy, Sharon, and The Great Khali being the judges. Lawler hosted it. First was Santino who bit the head off of a bat…..man figurine. Next was Chris Masters who was dancing his pectoral muscles to Crazy Train. Last was Jillian Hall and Chavo singing a duet. After being criticized for their singing, they made their way to the ring. Jillian got in Sharon's face and was slapped by Sharon. Chavo got in Sharon’s face and then Khali stood up. He nailed Chavo with a chop. Hornswoggle arrived dressed as Jack Osbourne and hit a tadpole splash.

Other notes from Raw. Can we have DX on commentary instead of Cole and Lawler??!! They were great. I know I enjoyed a lot of their shoot type comments that they were doing. Wow, Triple H was letting Michael Cole have it with making fun of him with the “oh my” and “vintage” whatever. I did laugh at the continued joke of Shawn having a physics degree which they said was from the University of Budapest. This went along with all of the percentage talk of the odds of DX winning at Survivor Series. It was 66% in case you missed it. This was funny stuff. Did you hear Shawn make the comment of how he couldn’t concentrate cause he had this voice in his head telling him to keep saying how he is enjoying watching Cena get beat up? Triple H also alluded to the voice saying that he didn’t know how they did their job with this voice yelling in their ear all the time. This was all great stuff. Ok, Chris Masters. I have to mention this. His dancing pecs to Crazy Train was the most entertaining thing that he has ever done. LOL. I have to say that they did good by making Sheamus look tough tonight by having him just destroy Noble. The conversation backstage with Cena and DX was hilarious with Hornswoggle. Then, the Bellas over hearing it was great too. Shawn cracked me up with the whole deal of how everyone keeps stealing their lines after Cena ran off stealing one of their catchphrases. The "Sharon" line from Ozzy reacting to the Show fist in his face was funny. If Ozzy's book doesn't come out until January, how has Michael Cole read it? Yeah, I get that he could have read it backstage or something but I just though that was silly to say.

Ricky Hatton will be the guest host on Raw from the UK next week.

Smackdown opened up last week with Chris Jericho talking to Teddy Long about how he won Bragging Rights for Smackdown. Long did take the trophy away from Jericho saying that it belonged to the brand. After the bragging continued, Kane made his way to the ring to point out that he was the co-captain and just as responsible. Both wanted the title match at Survivor Series against Undertaker. Long made a match with Kane taking on Jericho with the winner getting to join the title match making it a triple threat match. Jericho ended up winning when he countered Kane’s jump off of the top turnbuckle and landed the codebreaker for the win. CM Punk went to Long wanting a title opportunity as well. Vince McMahon was there at the time and made a suggestion of a match between Punk and referee Scott Armstrong. So, the match was made. Punk verbally abused him and shoved him. Armstrong punched back and landed some shots. Punk then finished off Armstrong with the GTS and put a foot on Armstrong for the pin. Rey Mysterio called out Batista wanting them to work things out. Batista definitely had that heel change walking to the ring with that entrance. Batista warned Rey several times to leave the ring or that things would be bad for him. Rey spoke up saying that if he had realized that getting in that fatal four way match would have messed up their friendship, he never would have entered it. Rey kept saying how their friendship was more important than anything else. Rey pleaded with him to save their friendship mentioning Eddie Guerrero’s name to which Batista responded that Eddie was gone. Batista said that he was only thinking about himself now and not about Rey. Batista left the ring with a big smile. Matt Hardy ran into Batista backstage and gave advice on not letting things destroy a brother kind of relationship cause you can’t take things back. Batista just laughed and left. Dolph Ziggler defeated John Morrison by countout. The finish had Ziggler landing a face first slam on to the announce table leaving Morrison laying on the floor. Ziggler rolled in and won by countout. Hardy defeated Escobar after Hardy pulled off a desperation pin attempt to win the match despite his leg being worked on. Cryme Tyme hosted the Halloween Costume Contest with Mickie James, Michelle McCool, Layla, and Natalya. Mickie ended up winning based on the crowd reaction and was dressed as Elektra. The heels attacked afterwards and the fight was on. Michelle attacked Mickie from behind and then left. Finlay and McIntyre were set to wrestle but McIntyre attacked him while entering the ring. He put a beating on Finlay and the ref threw the match out. Beth Phoenix won a squash match against Jenny Brooks. When I saw Jenny, my first thought was wow, a women’s squash match. It has to have been over fifteen years since I’ve seen one of those based on having one of the women being a basic unknown on TV.

WWE has produced a new opening for Raw which will debut soon. The new theme song for Raw will be the new song from Nickelback from what I’ve heard. WWE was recording crowd footage last week live at Raw to include into the opening based on live reports.

Tickets go on sale this Saturday for WrestleMania XXVI.

WWE will be releasing volumes one and two of the new Survivor Series Anthology tomorrow on DVD. The two volumes will cover the events from 1987-1996. There is a LOT of great stuff in those years.

WWE has done some moving around with the announce teams due to Jim Ross being gone. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are now teaming on Smackdown while ECW is now hosted by Josh Mathews and Byron Saxton.

Mickie James, the country artist? That appears to be a possibility. AllAccess.com is reporting that Mickie James has signed with Skyline Management Group who deal in developing country music singers.

Jim Cornette has posted his thoughts on the Hogan/Bischoff take over of TNA and the involvement of Vince Russo. He isn’t pulling punches on it and here is the link to check it out:

This is usually where I give the preview for WWE 24/7 Classics On Demand for the month of November. Well, I have no idea what is airing!! WWE has been promoting all of October about how November would be vote winners from the fans to celebrate the five year anniversary of the service. Well, no polls have shown up and we’ve got no lineup at all. I don’t know where they are getting the voting results from unless something shows up weekly. Regardless, we have a month of fan voting stuff and there has been nothing to vote on as of yet. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

That is all for tonight. Wishing all of you a great and safe week. Take care and God bless!!
